There are lots of facts about New Zealand but I’m going to tell you three of my favourite facts.
1- Did you know that there are no snakes in New Zealand.
2- The two offical languages in New Zealand are English and Maori.
3- Thirty percent of New Zealand is forest.
I am a Year 8 student at Ruapotaka School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Room 8 and my teacher is Mr Reid.

Powhiri Form Miss Hamilton!
On Thursday everyone was filled with mixed emotions. We held a powhiri to see our new principle. Mrs Vickers, Ms George (Chairperson) and Mrs Hamilton (New principal) sat on chairs at the front row. Before they walked into the multi purpose room we had to sing a karanga to welcome them.
When we finished, Mrs Vickers said her speech and talked about her retiring. We were very upset, some were even crying, because we didn't want Mrs Vickers to leave but we knew it was the right thing for her.

We Didn't Cook Today!
Sadly we had to have a different teacher called Mrs Kalu, because Mrs Tuipuluto was sick today.
Instead of cooking we had a booklet that had different things inside it, the main topic was about food. My favourite thing in the booklet was the word find.
I was sad we didn't have cooking but happy we did something.

Cultural Groups!
2018 is has been a very fast year for me. Some people are practicing their hardest to perform at prize giving. For prize giving we have different cultural items being presented by the Tongan, Samoan, Cook Island and Maori group. I'm in the Maori group with Mrs Riley as our teacher. For our dance the boys are doing a haka and the girls are learning a poi sequence. I am very excited to show the dance.

Manaiakalani
On Wednesday my school and I went to Sylvia Park to watch different movies by other schools.
Before we went to watch the movies we had a rule, which was to be quiet while watching a movie. When we first walked inside the cinema it was really dark and noisy. I was very excited when the first movie started.
My favourite movie was when the Point England students did carpool karaoke because they had different characters that matched their song.
It was very sad to see it end though, because there were lots of good movies and I wanted to see more.

Tennis
On Tuesday my class and I played tennis.
First coach Pete put us in partners to play a short game. My partner was Mary-Ruth, the main idea of the game was to pick up the ball first when he said go. After that we got tennis rackets and bounced the ball to your partner. I enjoyed doing tennis an I hope I do it again next time.

Skip Off!!
On Monday I had a skip off with other students from different classes. The teachers had to pick students that can skip the longest. When we started, I could hear my heart beating so fast because I was so scared. When I looked back some students sat down because they had stopped. Few minutes later I stopped because I was tired. I felt sad that I stopped but I was happy to relax my legs. I had a lot of support from my class and teachers.

Skipping Display
Skipping Display
On Friday the school had a skipping display.
( A skipping display is where each group shows different kinds of skipping movements)
The students from each class had to sit down on the ground while the parents watched from the chairs. We started off from Room 1 to Room 12. When our group was about to go up I felt scared because I thought I was going to make a mistake. Luckily it started to rained so we had to rush back to class.

Volleyball!!😓😓
Tuesday was the last day of Volleyball. Our coach Renee had been teaching us Volleyball for the last couple of weeks. She taught us the simple and popular moves that occur in volleyball games. On the last day we had an elimination game. To play this game you will have to play against another team, if you make a mistake you are out of the game. After the elimination game we had a tournament where there were four teams. My team only won one game. The last game we played was girls against boys, then we thanked Coach Renee and said goodbye.😇😇

Skipping Practice!!
In our free time we usually do skipping because we are having a skipping display soon. In the demonstration you select three or more student who can skip the longest. You then show your group's choreography and present it to the school as well as the parents.
Our class has three groups. The group I'm in has eight students. My favourite choreography is when Mary-Ruth does push ups while two people swing the rope.

Who Am I?
Kia ora my name is Liza and I go to Ruapotaka Primary. I am a year 7. I was born in Congo, I moved to New Zealand when I was a baby. I live with my mum and dad. My mum works at the pharmacy in Glen Innes and my dad is a soccer player in Mangere. When I was three years old I attended Point England primary and also Adventureland Childcare.
Things I like to do during the day are shopping in Sylvia Park at The Warehouse and going online shopping on aliexpress. I like to play on my black ipad mini and go on youtube. Mostly I like spending time with my mum at special places.
Cross Country!!😅
On Wednesday the 8th of August, our whole school had cross country.
We first started off with the year 1's. When the year 6's finished running I had butterflies in my stomach, I felt very nervous and scared because we were up next. As soon as I heard Mrs Pederson say go!, I tried so hard to run the fastest as I could. When Cross country was over I was huffing and puffing, but I was pleased to hear that I placed 3rd out of the year 7 girls.

Kahurangi
On Wednesday we watched a dance group called Kahurangi in the multipurpose room. When they walked in they danced to a song with waves in it. After that they told us some Maori myths and legends. The Kahurangi group taught us some Maori words and a Maori joke too.
My favourite part was when they called three people to demonstrate what Lucky had was doing. I like this part because it was very funny.

Paper Basket
On Friday afternoon Mr Reid sent a a video on how to weave a paper basket. It was easy at sometimes, but hard sometimes. I haven't finished mine but im nearly done, the part i need to finish is cutting two stripes of paper then gluing it to make it into a square. The colours I choose for my basket was pink and purple. The hardest bit was gluing the pieces together. This was the final product.

Reading Test
On Tuesday I had my first reading test with Mrs Golder. I was scared that I might move down a level. When I started my test I read a story called, "Captain Kirk" silently, then had to read it out loud to her. When I had finished reading the story, the teacher gave me a lot of questions which I had to answer. Some were easy and some were hard. When I finished my test I was pleased and happy that I had moved up a level.

Buddy Reading With Room 1
On Tuesday we walked to Room 1 to have buddy reading with them. When we arrived, Mrs Pedersen gave us a buddy to read with. Peni, my assistant, and I were with Daniel. Peni and I listened carefully to the words he was saying.
One thing I liked about Daniel's reading was that he pointed to the words and he was trying his best to sound out the unfamiliar words he came across.

Hip Hop With Jess!
On Tuesday we had a hip hop a session at the Multi Purpose Room with Jess, our choreographer.
First we greeted Jess then we went straight to the warm ups. The warm ups were quite funny because of the moves she gave us.
After the warm ups we played musical statue. When the music stopped we had to pause doing whatever movement or shape Jess told us.
For our sesson the song we danced to was Lean and Dab.
When we finished the dance and everyone was sweaty and tired.

Our Daily Fitness
On the first day of school we did running, we lined up in our class lines from Room 12 to Room 9. First the teachers had to spread themselves around the senior block to make sure we were still jogging. We had to jog for ten minutes.
Mrs Golder stood on the hill timing us and yelling at whoever who doesn't satisfy her.
When we finished we cooled down our bodies by jogging slowly on the spot, we also put our hands on our head so our lungs could receive more oxygen.

A Huge storm!
As I was watching TV I heard a buzz. Then lights went out. The television switched off automatically because there was a power outage. Suddenly, I heard weird banging noises coming from my balcony so I went upstairs, hopped into my bed and fell off to sleep.

Graphics !!
Last week on Wednesday we had Technicraft. We had to observe our teacher when he was talking, so that we could learn how to write our names creatively by drawing it in an artistic way. After everyone opened their chromebooks we to had to research various designs and we received a blank piece of paper to do our task. When I had finished my design I had to colour it in. I coloured it in with multiple bright colours and showed it to the teacher.
We did our learnibg with another school called Saint Pius, we were in Graphics with Mr. Penida.
